Electrolier, (Summer Night) is a sculptural chandelier of leaves, moths, and nocturnal fauna. The work pulses with the sparkling lights and various vibrant chirps of the countryside at night. The evening sky is fashioned from dark blue velvet and constellations are sewn with delicate beads. The tree branch covered with myriad electronic leaves was harvested by Heaton on her farm in Virginia.
Electrolier is accompanied by small diagrammatic studies which detail the hand constructed circuits used in the sculpture and correspond to the leaves alight with fireflies, moths and other insects. The diagrams are heat-transferred onto flexible copper-clad material; and the negative space is etched away leaving the printed circuit soldered to the component parts of Electrolier.
